While Hollywood struggles to get people to return to the theatres for anything that is not a superhero film, spin-off, or "Avatar" sequel, anime is working around the clock to meet high demand by creating hundreds of new seasons, shows, and movies. An episode of anime costs an average of $100,000 to $200,000 to produce, and One Piece has 1,043 episodes and counting.
According to the Association of Japanese Animations, the industry saw record-breaking revenue growth in 2021. Last year more than 50% of Netflix subscribers watched anime! Veteran fans expressed relief with the growing popularity, especially with Disney’s expansion into anime, to see the industry has maintained its culturally rooted charm.

This allows for deeper exploration of complex themes like love, loss, and humanity, taking viewers on an emotional journey.
Accessibility has boosted the growth of the anime fanbase. Thanks to streaming services, fans can now easily access their favourite shows. The popularity of anime has led thousands of fans worldwide to attend the world's most popular anime convention, AnimeJapan. They draw in over 100,000 every year! Anime is a one-stop shop for introducing viewers to Japanese traditions, cuisine, and popular phrases. Favourite characters frequently put on a false front or are outcasts, but through a variety of strange, quirky, and unexpected turns in their journeys, they always find the courage to accept who they really are. Many anime fans apply this crucial life lesson to their own lives because of how moving and inspiring it is presented.
With countless new fans, the fandom has been strongly based on inclusion and acceptance throughout the history of the industry, and the number of "otakus" is continuing to increase. There is a reason anime has progressed from being available only on VHS and DVD with limited airtime, to now being available on all streaming services and in most big theatres!
